L\u2019un des moyens pour am\u00e9liorer leur bien-\u00eatre consiste de permettre aux animaux d\u2019exprimer leurs besoins comportementaux, souvent en apportant des changements \u00e0 leur environnement physique. Cependant, les besoins comportementaux demeurent mal d\u00e9finis et appliqu\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re incoh\u00e9rente dans la litt\u00e9rature. Puisque l\u2019environnement influence directement les comportements qui peuvent \u00eatre exprim\u00e9s par les vaches laiti\u00e8res, cette th\u00e8se examine la relation entre les syst\u00e8mes de logement et l\u2019expression des besoins comportementaux chez les vaches laiti\u00e8res \u00e0 l\u2019aide de deux \u00e9tudes : une revue de litt\u00e9rature et une \u00e9tude animale. La revue de la litt\u00e9rature examine l&#039;\u00e9tude des besoins comportementaux chez les vaches dans les syst\u00e8mes d&#039;\u00e9levage intensifs en analysant comment ces besoins ont \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9s et d\u00e9finis dans la litt\u00e9rature, quels comportements ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9s chez les vaches laiti\u00e8res et comment l&#039;\u00e9tude de leurs comportements a \u00e9volu\u00e9 au fil du temps. Les r\u00e9sultats ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que seule une petite partie des articles reconnaissent explicitement les besoins comportementaux et ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 des incoh\u00e9rences dans la terminologie utilis\u00e9e. Les r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9galement indiqu\u00e9 que les comportements tels que le repos et l&#039;alimentation sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement mesur\u00e9s davantage que les comportements moins fr\u00e9quents comme le toilettage et l&#039;exploration, ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 largement guid\u00e9 par les priorit\u00e9s de recherche et les outils technologiques disponibles \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9poque. L&#039;analyse a \u00e9galement mis en \u00e9vidence un int\u00e9r\u00eat croissant pour la mani\u00e8re dont le syst\u00e8me d&#039;\u00e9levage influence l&#039;expression comportementale et a identifi\u00e9 une lacune dans la compr\u00e9hension de la mani\u00e8re dont les transitions entre syst\u00e8mes d&#039;\u00e9levage affectent l\u2019expression des besoins comportementaux des vaches. L\u2019\u00e9tude animale a donc examin\u00e9 comment les d\u00e9fis li\u00e9s au d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement vers une nouvelle \u00e9table, tels que le changement des syst\u00e8mes de logement et de traite, ainsi qu&#039;un regroupement social, influencent le comportement des vaches. Suivant l&#039;approche du laboratoire vivant, 38 vaches provenant de diff\u00e9rentes fermes \u00e0 stabulation entrav\u00e9e et \u00e0 stabulation libre, sans exp\u00e9rience pr\u00e9alable avec une salle de traite, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9es \u00e0 une \u00e9table \u00e0 liti\u00e8re accumul\u00e9e en suivant une inscription progressive, avec un regroupement social 14 jours apr\u00e8s leur arriv\u00e9e. Les r\u00e9sultats sugg\u00e8rent que les vaches s\u2019adaptent rapidement au d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement dans une nouvelle \u00e9table puisque leurs comportements dans l\u2019enclos et pendant la traite sont rest\u00e9s globalement stables apr\u00e8s leur arriv\u00e9e. Le regroupement social semble avoir eu un impact plus important sur le comportement, entra\u00eenant une diminution temporaire du temps pass\u00e9 couch\u00e9es et une augmentation du temps pass\u00e9 \u00e0 manger pendant la p\u00e9riode observ\u00e9e. Cependant, ces changements ont \u00e9t\u00e9 de courte dur\u00e9e et les niveaux comportementaux de base ont \u00e9t\u00e9 rapidement r\u00e9tablis. Il y a aussi eu une am\u00e9lioration rapide des proc\u00e9dures de manipulation des animaux, les vaches se rendant \u00e0 la salle de traite deux fois plus vite le cinqui\u00e8me jour que le deuxi\u00e8me et n\u00e9cessitant 3,5 fois moins d&#039;interactions physiques de la part du personnel pour effectuer le trajet. Cette \u00e9tude permet de mieux comprendre comment les vaches laiti\u00e8res r\u00e9agissent aux perturbations et est encourageante pour les producteurs qui doivent modifier leur syst\u00e8me d&#039;h\u00e9bergement puisqu\u2019elle d\u00e9montre que les vaches s&#039;adaptent rapidement aux d\u00e9fis qui leur sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s.
